Early Life:
The Baadshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan is an Indian actor, producer, television personality and philanthropist. Born in New Delhi and raised in Mangalore, he relocated to the capital city, where he spent the formative years of his life. Before making a foray into acting, Shah Rukh was a state level cricket player but had to give up on the sport owing to a back injury. He was bitten by the acting bug, while assisting his father, who ran a canteen at National School of Drama. Shah Rukh was inspired by actors like Raj Babbar and Raghuveer Yadav,which led him to audition for Barry John's play. He bagged the role and eventually became a part of the Theatre Action Group. His neighbour, Karan Kapoor then signed him on to play Abhimanyu Rai in the television show, Fauji (1988). The show was a huge success and Shah Rukh achieved substantial recognition among the masses. He then appeared on the television show Circus (1989), following which he landed his debut role in Dil Aashna Hai. However, Shah Rukh's second movie, Deewana (1992) released prior to this and went on to be a massive hit, consequently catapulting his career in Bollywood.
Career Highlights:
Post his debut, Shah Rukh earned the anti hero tag and appeared as an antagonist in three back - to - back films, Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994). However the year 1995, led to a significant turn in his career, when Aditya Chopra re - launched the actor in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. The movie launched him into the limelight and went on to become one of the highest grossing films in Bollywood. The blockbuster hit continues to be the longest running film in Indian Cinema and is being screened at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai to this very day. Following this, Shah Rukh appeared in hit films like Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Devdas (2002), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Paheli (2005), Don (2006), Om Shanti Om (2007) and My Name Is Khan (2010). Apart from being a globally recognized film star, Shah Rukh is also a path breaking entrepreneur. He heads one of the biggest film production houses - Red Chillies Entertainment, a VFX company and co-owns a successful cricket team, the Kolkata Knight Riders. Shah Rukh is the only Indian to win the prestigious UNESCO Pyramide Con Marni award for his philanthropic endeavors and social commitment towards providing education for children. He has hosted several television shows including Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 3 (2007), Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain (2008) and Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout (2011). He has also been honored with the Padma Shri Award, for his contribution to Indian cinema and with France's highest civilian award, the Legion of Honour (2014). Shah Rukh's last big release was Chennai Express (2013), following which he appeared in Happy New Year (2014), which rocked the box office. He also starred in the blockbuster film Dilwale (2015). Shah Rukh was recently seen in the highly anticipated film Fan, which released in April, 2016. His upcoming film, Raees, releases this Eid, in July 2016.
